If you become a registered user of the BioLingo web application, you agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the BioLingo project and the University of Ottawa, and its trustees, officers, employees and representatives, from any and all demands, claims, actions, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses, including attorneys’ fees and court costs, directly or indirectly arising out of or in connection with your access or use of the service or the content of the web application or your violation of any of the terms or conditions of this agreement. This paragraph shall survive any expiration or termination of this agreement.

Privacy

Your privacy is very important to us. You must register with your @uottawa.ca email address in order to access the game. This information and all other information pertaining to you on your account will never be shared with a third party and your anonymity will be preserved at all time. Should you have signed a consent form to participate in a research project, your anonymity will always be preserved when publishing or communicating the results to a wider audience.

When you register, you must choose an avatar and a player name for yourself. All other players will see your player name on the leaderboard. Therefore, be careful to choose a name that does not allow anyone to identify you if you wish to remain anonymous.

Research and website statistics

General data on the use of the web application will be captured using Google Analytics and programmed game analytics to improve our web application and the game content. The data thus collected could be used as part of a research project in science education. If personal data should ever be collected as part of a research project, this would only be done with your explicit consent. Should you have signed a consent form to participate in a research project, your anonymity will always be preserved when publishing or communicating the results to a wider audience.
